abandoned amusement

i can’t believe this is just sitting there. abandoned six flags in new orleans, beautiful photos by brynne- http://www.flickr.com/photos/brynnephotography/sets/72157622688948209/

interwoven daydreams

my latest labour of love. 100 some-odd hours of cutting, weaving, draping and hand sewing went into this piece. hand constructed from one piece of bamboo jersey.

more planetarium love.

i’ve have had a crush on this building since i can remember. i think initially as a little human it was all about the crab fountain, now it’s everything that i love. my recent visit reminded me of how much i like the planetarium and what an iconic yet overlooked vancouver landmark it is. i think a trip to the observatory for some stargazing is in order this weekend..

the end of an era

last week j and i took my little brother to the last laser show ever at the planetarium. how sad it is this rite of passage no longer exists in vancouver. yes, it’s true, the technology is outdated and at times borders on cheesy, but i find something comforting in that. not enough interest is why these shows came to an end, i suppose teenagers now prefer to get together and expand their horizons in the glow of their iphones, for me, it was acid, pink floyd and lasers. end of an era indeed.

raw silk, amethysts and emeralds. working with pretty things today.

mr. bumble bee

this guy was hanging out in my studio yesterday, he is the biggest bumble bee i’ve ever seen. i have my fingers crossed this means summer is on her way..

lynn canyon.

my dad stumbled upon this in the forest where i grew up. doesn’t get much more awesome.

i dream of fishtails.

fishtails for summer. weaving fishtails in a number of ways in a number of different materials is a theme for some of my summer pieces. this necklace is made from many strands of rayon tape and the beads are made from tagua nut.

eating beets and cutting fabric.

probably not the best combo.. but that’s what happens when your kitchen table moonlights as your cutting table.

warm.

more than anything in the whole world i wish it was warm. the fact that it’s the middle of may and it’s still freezing is making me crazy. these photos from the series ‘studie eins’ by matthias heiderich are so beautiful and they make me feel temporarily warm.
